I am a person who loves slow traveling, but doing it on a sailing boat is quite different than anything I tried before (walking, cycling , skating or hitchhiking ). Traveling in the sea makes you feel you are traveling by time for weeks, in a place far away from any civilization. You feel like you are stuck on a moving island in the middle of an infinite ocean, not receiving any news from the outside world, or perhaps you don’t even care. All you care about is how the weather will be in the coming days, or if the tomatoes and other vegetables that is out of the refrigerator is ripened or is off already. Wonderful how the priorities in our life can change over night, and everything that one day seemed very important in our life, is now changed to know the speed and direction of the wind. Who cares how much bitcoin is now, or when the world cup will start or if there’s a disaster happening in the world that we have no clue about…
Before I hope up on this voyage, I thought it will be so boring in the boat, but It was surprisingly the opposite. Sometimes I don’t even know where all these hours went to ! Our day tasks looks like this: cooking , cleaning, 6/7 hours of watches or hand steering in heavy weather, reading a book, or just meditating and thinking, or if it’s sunny and I have some extra time, I go out to lie under the sun and get tan. Maybe is the first days and I still didn’t get used to the life on boat and I still didn’t find a routine, or perhaps the movement of the waves that sometimes gives you the feeling of doing nothing but steering to the open sea and just think and write these words.
